Transcripts and what is stored
A chat conversation is a record. It is worth knowing where that record goes.
Keeping your own copy
The simplest approach is to copy the conversation into a document as you go, or to take a screenshot at the end. Most chat widgets do not offer a download button, and relying on being able to retrieve a transcript later is optimistic — retention periods are usually shorter than people assume.
What is typically stored
A conversation record normally contains the messages themselves, a timestamp for each, and whatever reference numbers were exchanged. It may also contain basic technical details such as the browser used, because the widget needs them to work.
Asking for deletion
Where a transcript exists, there is normally a route to request its deletion. The request usually needs the reference number and the approximate date of the conversation, since that is how the record is found.
